Krav Maga Boston
Krav Maga Books By Gershon Ben Keren
Krav Maga Yashir Boston Head Instructor
Krav Maga in Boston, Massachusetts
Gershon Ben Keren, moved to the US in 2008, and after first running classes at the Cambridge, YMCA, in 2009 started teaching Krav Maga at the Roshankish Tae Kwon Do school, in Medford, MA (later renamed to Roshankish Martial Arts). At the time there were only two other Krav Maga schools in the greater Boston area; one in Malden and the other in Watertown – at the time both were affiliated with Krav Maga Worldwide (the association set up by Darren Levine in 1999). Before this he’d been teaching Krav Maga in London, UK, after successfully completing the IKMF’s (International Krav Maga Federation) 29-day, Krav Maga instructor certification program, having started his training in Krav Maga, in Israel, in 1993.
In 2012, the school relocated to the Charlestown Maritime Center in Boston (at the time it was the only Krav Maga school in Boston). This was a 16 000 sq ft training facility, that had a gym and reality-based training area, as well as two large, matted areas where classes could be held. Throughout the ten years that Krav Maga Yashir was located in Boston, the school hosted multiple seminars involving notable Krav Maga and Israeli Martial Arts instructors including, Roy Elghanayan, Miki Assulin, and Ran Steinberg etc. One of Gershon Ben Keren’s goals was to not only teach authentic Israeli Krav Maga in Boston but to also bring different experts in the system to the city, so that Boston residents could get to experience the uniqueness and effectiveness of Krav Maga.
In 2012, Gershon was approached by Tuttle Publishing to write a book on Krav Maga. Their head of publishing had been following his Krav Maga Blog for a number of years and believed that the content was of a standard that warranted it being put in print. After writing what was to become an Amazon best-seller – Krav Maga: Real World Solutions to Real World Violence – it was necessary to shoot the photographs for the book. As with his subsequent books, locations in and around Boston were chosen, such as under the Tobin Bridge, and at Eddie C’s bar in East Boston etc. Using “real” Boston locations give the books a sense of authenticity and ruggedness that wouldn’t have been captured if the photographs were simply taken in a studio etc.
In 2022, Krav Maga Yashir Boston, moved to its current location in Woburn, MA, just North of Boston at the intersection on I-93 and I-95. The school is a full-time Krav Maga training facility, teaching authentic Krav Maga direct from the source. The school is located less than 12 miles from Boston and can be accessed from the city in under twenty minutes. The school has free on-site parking, so there is never a need to spend time looking for somewhere to park. Evening classes are divided into 30-minute segments, allowing for students to start training at either 6:00 pm, or 6:30 pm, and still be able to get in an hour of Krav Maga training; some students choose to train for 90 minutes.
Krav Maga Yashir Boston continues to offer authentic, effective and realistic self-defense training to people living in Massachusetts and New England. To try one of our beginner Krav Maga classes, please use the button below.
