Krav Maga Boston's Instructors

Gershon Ben Keren
Gershon Ben Keren, is a Krav Maga Instructor, Security Specialist and Criminologist. It is the combination of these three areas of expertise that makes training with Gershon at Krav Maga Yashir Boston such a productive and unique experience.

Gershon Ben Keren - Krav Maga Instructor

Gershon Ben Keren, Head Instructor at Krav Maga Yashir Boston, has been training in Krav Maga since 1993. He first started training in the system/method/approach after training with two of Gabi Noah’s students on Kibbutz Tel Yitzhak in Israel. After a several years of training in Krav Maga he was accepted onto the IKMF’s (International Krav Maga Federation) 180-hour instructor course led by Eyal Yanilov and Amnon Darsa. After passing the course (this was at a time when many people didn’t pass Krav Maga instructor courses), he set up his school in London (in the UK), teaching authentic Israeli Krav Maga. Gershon has taught Krav Maga in Israel, Europe, Africa, and the US. One of the features of his training is to focus on the types of violence that are experienced in those locales where he is teaching e.g., when conducting Krav Maga classes and seminars in the UK there is a good proportion of time devoted to defenses against knife attacks as these are more commonplace than in certain other countries etc. After over thirty years of Krav Maga training, he is ranked as a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga. He has written three Amazon Best-Selling Books on Krav Maga, and in 2010 was inducted into the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts in Herzliya, Israel, in recognition of his work in promoting Krav Maga and the Israeli Martial Arts as a whole (Krav Maga is one of several Israeli Martial Arts, including Hisardut and KAPAP - Gershon is also a certified KAPAP instructor under Avi Nardia). He now teaches Israeli Krav Maga in Boston, Massachusetts, (having moved to the US in 2008) running a full-time dedicated training center i.e., his school, Krav Maga Yashir Boston isn’t a “martial arts center”, with a Krav Maga program, but a center, which only trains and teaches Krav Maga. Gershon Ben Keren – Security Specialist

In 1990, Gershon began work as a ”doorman” in pubs, bars, and clubs, in the North-East of England (he started this as a means to fund his way through university as both an undergraduate and postgraduate studying psychology). Working security in these environments meant having to deal with real-life violence on a regular basis, rather than simply checking ID’s. Gershon worked his way up to being a “door supervisor” who managed and trained teams in how to communicate, interact and deal with potentially violent clients, as well as how to deal with them physically if they became violent. Dealing with assailants armed with knives, as well as groups of football/soccer hooligans, in the UK, was commonplace and simply looked on as “part of the job”. This work led onto fulfilling other roles within the security industry including working in close-protection (sometimes referred to as “bodyguarding”). He has worked internationally providing security services and training to a variety of clients, both individuals and organizations. Gershon Ben Keren – Criminologist

Gershon Ben Keren is a criminologist who conducts research and works in the private security sector determining and assessing risk for private clients, both individuals and organizations. As well as his master’s degree in psychology (Newcastle University), he also has a second master’s degree in criminology and criminal psychology (University of Essex). At Krav Maga Yashir Boston he uses his knowledge and understanding of how crime and violent crime occurs to give context to the training scenarios that are used to present solutions to violence e.g., rather than simply teach a particular technique that deals with a knife or gun threat, the various contexts in which such threats are experienced are taught and explained; if the threat is experienced as part of a mugging or street robbery then the various components of such scenarios are taught and explained and how the absence or presence of them may effect the solution chosen to deal with the incident. Krav Maga Yashir Boston takes a researched and evidential approach to violence to ensure that the solutions presented take into account the relevant factors and variables present in real-life incidents. If you are interested in learning how to deal with real-life violence using Krav Maga techniques and solutions rather than simply working through a syllabus, you can start your training by attending one of our Beginner Krav Maga classes.
