Short Courses In Israeli Krav Maga
Short Courses in Israeli Krav Maga in Boston
Our four-week Krav Maga course is designed to introduce you to the various elements and phases of dealing with real-life violent confrontations. Whilst we would always recommend on-going/regular training to develop non-perishable fighting skills etc., we understand that not everybody has the time and resources to do so. This is why we offer this short course, that in conjunction with some of our regular one-off seminars, can help teach and develop the necessary skills and knowledge to increase your personal security and ability to deal with common threats and attacks. This course covers striking, solutions to weapon threats, escapes from grabs, holds and controls etc., along with techniques and strategies for dealing with situations/incidents when you may find yourself on the ground. Whether you are looking for a more solid and detailed introduction to Krav Maga before you commit to regular classes or are simply looking to equip yourself with some basic self-defense tactics, strategies and techniques etc., this short course in Krav Maga should meet your needs. Held at our training facility just north of Boston, you can see upcoming dates on our registration form by clicking on the button below. (Week 1) Krav Maga Course - Effective Movement, Control of Range, Blocking & Striking
This foundational class teaches you how to control range between yourself and an aggressor (as well as how to de-escalate a potentially violent confrontation, whilst ensuring physical safety) along with how to block circular and swinging punches along with straight ones. You will also be introduced to how to effectively throw power punches and strikes, and how - and when it is legally permissible - to strike pre-emptively using both open-handed strikes and closed fist punches. You will also be taught how to connect/combine your blocking and striking so that your defensive movements also become attacking ones. In this module you will be shown/taught the Krav Maga concept of “Retzev” (meaning “continuous” in Hebrew), which allows you to produce a continuous flow of strikes. Striking is a zero-sum game and if you are not engaged in it – or some other offensive action – Your assailant will be. By filling any “gaps” in a physical confrontation with your own striking combinations you will both disrupt your assailant’s attack(s) and put enough pressure on them that you can create a safe opportunity in which to disengage.

(Week2) Krav Maga Course - Solutions against Weapon Threats (Knife & Gun)
In this module you will be taught how pre-meditated assaults and threats with knives, such as muggings and abductions differ to those spontaneous situations, which may erupt over a dispute or argument in a bar, pub or other setting i.e., normal social interactions which have turned bad/dangerous. You won’t be taught complicated weapons disarming techniques, but simple and straightforward disabling and disengagement techniques that will either incapacitate your attacker for a moment and/or create an opportunity to safely disengage etc. All the scenarios that you will work through are based on real-life confrontations and incidents, with the different contextual elements explained e.g., how an abduction differs from a street robbery etc. You will also learn how common movements can be used against both unarmed and armed attacks, along with how solutions to both knife and gun threats can take a similar almost identical approach.
Also In this module, as well as learning how to deal with knife threats, you will learn Krav Maga's tried and tested defenses against gun threats. You will also see how the Krav Maga Yashir system teaches you how to deal with an assailant who attempts to retain/hold on to their weapon, rather than easily give it up in a compliant manner. Such techniques that are designed to counter an attacker's responses to having their weapon controlled/disarmed are rarely seen outside of Israel and are part of our unique and direct style of Krav Maga training. In Krav Maga Yashir we always expect an assailant to respond to the things that we do as this replicates real-life. Whilst many other self-defense systems always train with the expectation of “success”, we recognize the nature of the fight and that for every solution we try to enact our aggressor will try to thwart and counter it.

(Week 3) Krav Maga Course - Solutions against Common Holds, Grabs and Chokes etc.
In this session you will learn how to escape from basic grabs and controls such as wrist and clothing grabs as well as headlocks and chokes etc. You will learn how to distinguish life-threatening attacks from non-life-threatening ones, and how being able to allows you to enact and utilize simple heuristics that guide your decision-making and physical responses. You will also learn how attackers respond to the solutions/techniques you utilize and how to alter and change your responses accordingly. No solution/technique is perfect, and employing one creates opportunities/vulnerabilities that an assailant can exploit. Understanding how an attacker can respond when you employ a Krav Maga technique allows you to put in place measures that prevent this from happening as well as being prepared for their response etc. In reality most real-world violent incidents are “solved” incrementally, with one solution being employed that betters your situation, followed by another and then another etc. Understanding and being able to move from one phase of the fight to another is a key self-defense/fighting skill.

(Week 4) Krav Maga Course - Ground Survival
There is a difference between ground-fighting and ground survival, and one that Krav Maga recognizes. Ground-fighting involves relatively complex techniques and the development of skills in order to “finish” the fight on the ground by the way of joint-locks, strangulations and chokes etc. Whilst Krav Maga, at its higher levels contains such techniques and solutions, the main emphasis and focus of Krav Maga when looking at fighting on the ground, is to teach people how to deal with the situations and scenarios they face and to get back to their feet, so that they can disengage and exit the confrontation i.e., to teach people how to “survive” the potential ground phase of a fight in order to get back to their feet etc. By learning how to create and manage space through a combination of movement and striking this becomes an easier goal to realize, and takes considerably less time to “master” than learning how to finish a fight on the ground, by some form of submission etc. In this module you will learn how to escape from some of the common holds and controls that assailants employ/use and how to safely get back to your feet etc.
